This workshop highlights new materials and techniques to enhance prints and resolve monotype compositions. It is a great way to extend your voice and artistic vocabulary. First, we review encaustic monotype basics and composition. After the monotype is removed from heat, we   work freely with an array of materials including watercolor, inks, drawing materials, and pigmented cold wax  (sans oil from Evans Encaustics), to evolve and to complete the image!

Why use cold wax over a wax monotype? You don't need as many layers to obtain a rich surface; since there is no oil used, you can use Asian paper or other print paper; the cold wax dries faster because less is used; compositions are more "forgiving" than with either print or CW painting.

We also cover mounting paper (3 ways!), framing, and free-hanging paper ideas. This class can accommodate your specific interests as well. Bring your ideas, imagination, and if you like, other materials specific to your particular interests.

FORMAT: Demonstrations are interspersed with ample studio work time. Includes guided discussions, group discussion and critiques.  Class limited to 10. 10AM- 4PM daily.

SKILLS NEEDED: All levels welcome! Knowledge of encaustic, and monotype experience, are helpful.  Watching Paula’s 2 ½ hour Instructional DVD will help you learn about monotypes and review skills (order here). Taking my Navigating the HOTbox Workshop first will of course give you more facility.
