INTERMEDIATE / ADVANCED ENCAUSTIC TOPICS, Santa Fe - OCTOBER 7-11, 2019
(Optional: Add Special Project Mentoring days ahead of this workshop to extend your visit! Write email@example.com for more info.)
A RETREAT in the beautiful Santa Fe hills.
+ A WORKSHOP with morning demos of new and advanced encaustic.
+ A MINI RESIDENCY with uninterrupted time to work on your personal goals with expert advice.
This 5 day session is for those who have command of encaustic technique and want to take their work and career farther. This workshop provides professional guidance, advanced techniques, uninterrupted time to work, and interaction with like-minded, inspired, colleagues. This is an opportunity to clarify what your work is about and where you want to take it.
Working in a professional and well equipped studio provides additional opportunities including the ability to work larger, to create a related body of works, to realize a special project or goal such as an installation, or find unique solutions for presentation.
Past participants have been able to "workshop" their ideas with the group and create conceptually and formally rigorous works with great success. (See the pictures!) Paula shares career topics relevant to working artists, along with her new-found materials, techniques, and display methods!
Participants identify their goals ahead of time through a questionnaire and optional phone consultation with Paula. Includes individual consultations with Paula and individual and group critiques.
In the daily morning demos, Paula shares her latest discoveries and advanced techniques. Afternoons and evenings are for your self directed work, or time to take walks in the surrounding hills, or visit world-class galleries and museums in or around Santa Fe.
FORMAT: Demonstrations are 10AM-12:30 PM daily. Afternoons and evenings are your studio work-time, with Paula available until 4 PM. The studio is open to you before and after workshop hours. This class limited to 8.
SKILL LEVEL III-IV: Admittance to this class is by instructor permission following review of applicant’s digital images. Participants are expected to be working artists with exhibition experience. Please be well versed in the encaustic method you wish to work in, as this is not a workshop in which to learn level I or II monotypes or painting skills. However, Paula will help you extend your current skills, develop new ones, and meet your goals. Email Paula: firstname.lastname@example.org to confirm that you are ready for this class.
SUPPLIES: Some materials are included. Each participant will have the option use of a Roland Double HOTbox™, a full table and some shared table spaces. We supply encaustic medium or beeswax (up to 3 pounds per person), shop materials, appliances (torches, heat guns, hot pots, griddles, pans, irons, hot pens), and many small tools. Since you each have individual preferences and goals, please bring your own encaustic paint, panels, and print paper. Also bring materials or tools that apply to your specific work. We do not supply paint! We can suggest a local panel-maker who will deliver to the studio if you order well in advance. There is a very good art supply store, Artisans, in Santa Fe. They carry encaustic paint, R&F oil sticks, and many items for encuaustic needs, although stock of panels often runs low. You may also ship supplies to us a few weeks ahead. Send to 523 Cortez St, Santa Fe, NM 87501. Attn: hold for Advanced workshop.
COST: $1095 Half payment of $547.50 holds your place. Balance is due 45 days prior. Mark your calendar and make your payment by 5/25/18 or you may lose your space.
By placing an order and registering for this class, you are agreeing to our Refund, Cancellation, and Liability Policies.
