ENCAUSTIC MONOTYPES - INTRODUCTION, Santa Fe - May 17-20, 2017

With this comprehensive introductory class you will leave with an armload of prints, fully inspired, with confidence to continue on your own!
This workshop provides a comprehensive overview of encaustic monotype techniques for artists at all skill levels. We cover additive, subtractive, and layered processes, temperatures, and provide a variety of western and Asian papers and scrolls, each with its own quirks and results.  We provide nearly 100 colors and four brands of encaustic paint so that you become comfortable with their many variables. Roland shares the many techniques she has developed, including mixed media drawing with monotypes, scroll works, print installations and much more.  Also covered: Mounting prints to boards, presentation options for framing and for display of free-hanging paper.

FORMAT: Demonstrations are interspersed with ample studio work time, discussion, Q&A, and critique. Class limited to 12

SKILLS NEEDED: Open to artists at all levels with knowledge of color and composition. No prior experience with encaustic or printmaking is needed! If you have done monotypes before, but not studied with Paula, this is still the best class for you. HINT: Watching Paula’s 2 ½ hour Instructional DVD will help prepare you and provide a way to review after this enjoyable, fact-filled class.

SUPPLIES: All Supplies Provided! A list of small tools and incidentals will be sent. Hours: 10AM to 4PM daily.
